I can substantiate this and offer some additional insight into the mode of transport -- at least in my house.

35% - Stuck in the dog's fur and carried inside.

40% - Blown in through the open door while the 4 year old dawdles on his way in from the car. (This is also how we lose up to 40% of our heat.)

25% - Carried in via the hoods on the kids' coats. (Leaves are typically stuffed in there by classmates in line for the bus. Sadly, the owner of the coat never thinks to remove them.)
